About Us
Since 1998 we have been privileged with improving the quality of life of many children and adults with Down syndrome and their families.
Our mission is to promote the unique contributions of children and adults with Down syndrome by providing direct services to them and their families, and to educate the general public by fostering inclusive and integrated involvement with the Down syndrome community and society at large.
The Down Syndrome Connection of the Bay Area, consisting of a group of caring individuals, educators, therapists, and involved community members was started in 1998 by a group of parents seeking to fill a void in services and support available to children and adults with Down syndrome and their families. We remain unique in that we are the only organization in the Bay Area dedicated to the special concerns and unique contributions of people with Down syndrome.
Our programs are designed to augment the child/teenager/adult's educational and social experiences through interactive and therapeutic activities as well as to help prepare for integration into the community and society as a valuable participant and contributor.
We are proud offer services and support such as prenatal consultation, parent support groups, information and referral, education, one on one advocacy, therapeutic STEP classes for all ages, a resource and lending library, outdoor field trips for teens and adults, and community events for families. We also have a private Speech Therapist and Reading Tutor on site for the convenience of our membership.
We currently reach over 500 families and over 100 babies, children and adults attend our classes each week in one of our 5 locations throughout the Bay. Our philosophy is to welcome every individual with Down syndrome regardless of financial capacity. We often seek support from our community to provide scholarships on behalf of students and families unable to afford our fee for service for teen and adult programs.
